The Environment
With towering trees, the ocean lapping the shoreline and the greetings of the local
eagle or bear, Sonora Resort is not merely a luxury wilderness resort lodge. It
is an island of extraordinary wonders in one of British Columbia's most pristine
and alluring settings. That's why we take every opportunity to protect this remarkable
environment.
Over the last few years alone, Sonora Resort has donated over $200,000 to various
Salmon enhancement initiatives including the Pacific Salmon Foundation. Our senior
staff is personally involved as well, devoting time on the Board of the Gillard
Pass Fisheries Association and working with the BC Institute of Technology's Fisheries
Program.
We have also installed a unique waste water treatment facility which allows us to
recycle "grey" water for things like watering our green spaces rather than polluting
the ocean. We have six producing water wells to make our resort self-sufficient
and a specialized waste disposal incinerator that puts virtually nothing back into
the environment.
We view the Homalko First Nation not just as partners, but friends. With their help
we have developed Eco Tours and Grizzly Bear viewing stands that don't interfere
with the local flora and fauna.
If you share our passion for this remarkable setting, we kindly ask you to consider
reusing your towels and bed linens for two or three days. We also ask that you be
mindful of discarding your garbage and cigarettes appropriately.
